Modern Metal
Aluminum blinds, like those in the Modern Precious Metals® Collection from Hunter Douglas, are sleek, streamlined, and modern. If you are thinking of metal blinds as dull and silver, think again! You choose a marble finish for a casual sitting room, a metallic finish for a game room, a subtle matte or pearlescent for your master bedroom, and many other finishes in between.
Advantages of Aluminum Blinds
Metal window blinds are lightweight, making them easy to use for people of all ages and abilities. They are also incredibly durable and perfect for homes with active children, pets, or very high-traffic areas. You won’t have to worry about your blinds getting bent, scratched, or dented by jumping dogs or excited children peeking out the window waiting for Mom or Dad to get home.
Metal blinds are also easy to maintain. They are moisture-resistant, and so can be used in any room, including bathrooms, and are easy to clean. Aluminum blinds from Hunter Douglas are specially treated to repel dust, but when your blinds do need a cleaning, a soft cloth, and your vacuum’s brush attachment will do the trick.
Choosing a Slat Size
If you’re hanging your metal blinds in a room with an excellent view, you may want to go with a larger slat size. The larger slats the fewer there are so you have more view-through. For twice the view-through, the MagnaView® feature, exclusively from Hunter Douglas, nests the slats neatly together when tilted open to double your view-through.
Sleep Tight with Metal Blinds
Metal blinds are already great for room darkening due to their solid material nature, but if you need your room extra dark, the de-Light™ feature eliminates cord holes to block 50% more incoming light than traditional metal blinds.
Wood Blinds
Parkland® Wood Blinds add an air of sophistication and charm to any room. Natural wood blinds add warmth and character to your home while remaining versatile enough to fit many decor styles. Natural wood may not seem like an eco-friendly choice but the process to create authentic wood blinds uses fewer chemicals than other materials and wood blinds will last for years with proper care. Hunter Douglas also ensures its lumber is sustainably sourced and donates to the Arbor Day Foundation with every wood blind purchase.
Wood blinds are lightweight and a natural insulator, so they will increase your home’s energy efficiency. Parkland® blinds feature advanced finishing technology so they will maintain their new appearance over time. They are also low maintenance. Regular dusting and wipe down with wood oil are all it takes. Take care to not expose your wood blinds to too much moisture as it will damage your investment.
Finishes for Days
Wood blinds don’t have to be brown and boring. The Parkland® line is available in an extensive array of finishes including solids in neutral shades like eggshell, linen and grays, matte finishes, and specialty finishes. Of course, you also have the option of wood stains ranging from light-colored pine and oak to darker cherry.
Faux Wood Blinds
EverWood® Alternative Wood Blinds combine the look of natural wood with the durability of manmade material. Since they are resistant to moisture they can be used in bathrooms, sunrooms, and homes in extreme climates. EverWood® window blinds are guaranteed to never fade, warp, yellow, or bow while maintaining the good looks of natural wood.
Additional Options
An advantage of faux wood over natural wood is the wider selection of available colors and finishes. The surface of composite material is not as finicky as authentic wood, so more creative options are possible. Match your blinds to your decor with solids in neutral colors or choose a textured finish to add visual interest to your room. EverWood® faux wood blinds are also available with TruGrain®, which creates the most realistic stain-like finishes in the industry.
Operating Systems
Whether you're smart home-savvy or prefer doing things the traditional way, Hunter Douglas has an operating system that is perfect for you. Would you like to operate your blinds using your voice or favorite mobile device? PowerView® Automation is your dream come true. Your motorized blinds will open and close at your convenience and integrate seamlessly with the PowerView® app.
Manual Systems
If you are outfitting only a few windows with new blinds it may be more practical to go with a manual operating system. The LiteRise® system allows you to raise and lower your window blinds by pushing up or pulling down with your hand. When you release the blind, it locks into place. SimpleLift™ is a cordless option, creating a safer environment for homes with young children and pets, that operates by pushing a button on the bottom rail.
